< Security < Remembrance Commission

The Remembrance Commission was established in 2003 to administer a scheme of assistance and remembrance for victims of the Northern Ireland conflict, and their families, in this jurisdiction.

The Commission was initially established for a period of three years, over which period the Government committed to allocating €9m to it (the Remembrance Fund). The Commission’s term of appointment was extended for a further year in October 2006, and again in October 2007.

The Commission has disbursed over €6.5m to victims and their families in this time. The Commission’s term of appointment formally came to an end on 31 October 2008.
