If you are a victim of domestic or sexual violence and have your own story to tell, it is important that you know you are not alone. Help and support is always here for you. When you are ready to tell your story – you will be heard, you will be believed, and you will be supported.
It’s okay if you don’t know how to act. You may be physically hurt, emotionally drained, or unsure of what to do next. You may be worn down from years of constant belittling and controlling behaviour. Hopefully if you are here, you are considering seeking help or reporting what has happened to you, but are unsure of where to start. If this is how you feel, then know that freedom and recovery from what has happened is possible and you do not have to do this alone.
Learning more about what steps you can take following DSGBV can help ground you in a difficult time. It’s important to know that recovering from DSGBV is a process, and that process looks different for everyone. It may take weeks, months, or years — there’s no timetable for healing.
Always remember that if you, or anyone else, are in immediate danger call 999 or 112 or go to your local Garda Station.
