Import as a registered firearms dealer

If you wish to import firearms as a dealer, please fill out either of the the forms and send to the address below:

Please ensure the following when completing an importation application form:

  • complete the Application to Import Firearms and or Ammunition fully
  • make sure you have filled in the exact makes and models of the firearms and the correct firearms category
  • you can fill in the form using type or in handwriting. If completing it in handwriting please use black ink and block capitals. Forward the documentation to the Firearms and Explosives Licensing Unit of the Department of Justice
  • if you are importing restricted firearms or restricted ammunition, you will first need an authorisation to trade in restricted firearms from this department. Where you are applying to import a Category B firearm, confirmation is required whether or not a firearm certificate or Garda authorisation has been issued for the firearm. A copy of any such certificate or authorisation should be forwarded with the application
  • if you are importing from a non-EU state, firearms and their essential components must comply with new marking requirements set out in Statutory Instrument No. 420 of 2019

Please ensure the following when completing an importation application form:

  • read these instructions carefully before submitting your application. Complete the application form
  • make sure you have filled in the exact make and model of the firearm and the correct firearms category
  • attach to the application a copy of the valid firearms certificate for the firearm or ammunition to be imported
  • for firearms listed as Category B you will need to obtain a document entitled an Article 7 for EU imports. This is issued by a superintendent of An Garda Síochána. A copy will have to be sent to us with your application to import the firearms
  • you can fill in the form using type or in handwriting. If completing it in handwriting please use black ink and block capitals. Forward the documentation to the Firearms and Explosives Licensing Unit of the Department of Justice
  • if you are importing from a non-EU state, firearms and their essential components must comply with new marking requirements set out in Statutory Instrument No. 420 of 2019
