Diarmaid Smyth

Diarmaid Smyth has responsibility at Principal level for the Labour Market and Skills Unit. The Unit provides the secretariat for the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs (EGFSN) which advises on future skills requirements and associated labour market issues that impact on enterprise development and employment growth. The Unit also provides the secretariat for the Low Pay Commission (LPC) which makes recommendations to the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment on the rate of the National Minimum Wage and related policy matters. The Unit represents the Department on national and international groups relating to labour market and skills issues including the European Union’s Employment Committee (EMCO).
