Minister Byrne hosts US Congressional Delegation

The Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne TD, today hosted a visiting bipartisan U.S. Congressional delegation at Iveagh House.

Led by Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jim Jordan, the delegation also included Ranking Member, Jamie Raskin, Representative Scott Fitzgerald, Representative Kevin Kiley, and Representative Steve Cohen.

Days after the EU-US agreement reached by President von der Leyen and President Trump, the meeting provided a useful opportunity for the Minister and Congressional delegation to discuss the strength of the mutually beneficial US Ireland economic relationship.

Speaking after the meeting, Minister Byrne said:

“I was very glad to meet with Chairman Jordan and Representatives from the US Congress. I underlined to the Congressional delegation the importance that the Irish Government attaches to protecting and deepening our economic relationship, which pays dividends to both sides.”

There was also a discussion of technology and digital policy, including EU regulation in this space. Minister Byrne commented:

“I welcome and value the perspectives of our American friends from both sides of the aisle. The Government supports EU digital regulation which is designed to protect consumers and the public. I welcome the opportunity to exchange views on this matter with the visiting delegation.”
