"Since the first day of this brutal war, Ireland has stood squarely and wholeheartedly behind our Ukrainian friends and neighbours.

"As Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, let me be very clear: Our support for Ukraine is unwavering.

"We will stand in solidarity with Ukraine for as long as necessary.

"Today’s talks between the United States and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia are very welcome, including the decision by Ukraine to agree to a temporary ceasefire.

"It’s now vital that Russia too responds positively - after all they are the aggressor in this awful conflict.

"We await the response now from Moscow, the ball is very much in their court.

"What we all want is clear: a just and lasting peace."
