The work of the Tourism Development is split into three main areas:
- Tourism Enterprise Development
- Tourism Product Development
- Greenways
Tourism Enterprise Development
Key responsibilities include:
- matters relating to the corporate governance of Fáilte Ireland
- policy issues relating to tourism development and structure
- policy responsibility for the enhancement of quality and standards (including the framework for the registration and approval of visitor accommodation under the Tourist Traffic Acts)
- policy responsibility for enterprise development, human resource and training issues in the industry
Tourism Product Development
Key responsibilities include:
• policy responsibility for capital investment in Fáilte Ireland’s tourism experience brands and individual tourism attractions as laid out in Fáilte Ireland investment strategy 2016-2022;
• policy responsibility for State support of national and regional festivals and participative events; business tourism; and international sports and cultural events;
• matters relating to the development of niche tourism sectors including food and drink, angling, golf, cruise, adventure, activities and heritage tourism; and
- support and preparation for the hosting of EURO 2020 football tournament in Dublin in June 2020.
Greenways
Key responsibilities include:
• oversee the development of Greenways projects funded by the Department;
• implement the Greenways strategy; and
• monitor capital spending on Greenways.
