A labelling system allows consumers to compare the carbon (CO2) emissions of new cars.

The first section of the label shows details of the car, including the make and model, engine size, transmission and fuel type.

The second shows the emission bands and identifies the band for the particular vehicle to which the label is attached.

The third shows the grams of CO2 that the car emits per kilometre (km) driven.

The fourth section displays the amount of fuel (or electric energy) required to run the vehicle over 100km and 18,000 km.

The fifth shows the annual motor tax payable on the vehicle and the rate of Vehicle Registration Tax.

The final section provides the driver with information on:

• How to access a guide to fuel economy and CO2 emissions

• The role of CO2 in global warming

• The World Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP)
