On Friday evening Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross T.D. and Minister of State Brendan Griffin T.D. travelled to Listowel Co. Kerry where they launched the new evening service of Local Link buses.

Minister Ross said: “I’m delighted to be here in the glorious Kingdom of Kerry to take a trip on one of the new evening services. This initiative was developed following engagements with various key stakeholders last year, where we looked at ways in which social isolation in rural areas can be addressed. I asked the NTA to examine extending existing Local Link services under the Rural Transport Programme and we have now added 188 new trips per week to the network of rural transport services nationally. I have to stress that this is a pilot project –one that we very much want to succeed and flourish. So I would ask everyone to make use of it, it’s your transport system, developed for your benefit and it is here to serve you.”

Minister Griffin said: “I was delighted to assist Minister Ross in developing this important project and I’m very happy to be here in Listowel this evening to travel on the new service. The results of this pilot scheme will be assessed and the continuation of services considered in light of these results. These services will enable people to get out and socialise, meet friends and neighbours and attend local events. I’d like to thank the NTA and the Local Link Offices for all their work on this very welcome project.”
