The Annual Review and Outlook for Agriculture, Food and the Marine 2024 provides up-to-date information and statistical analysis from a variety of sources to give a detailed overview of Ireland’s agri-food sector and an outlook for the future.
The agri-food sector is Ireland’s oldest and largest indigenous exporting sector. In 2023, Irish agri-food exports exceeded €18.1 billion, reaching 180 countries worldwide and accounting for over 9% of Ireland’s exports. Over 171,000 people were employed in the sector, representing 6.4% of the total workforce across more than 135,000 farms, 2,000 fishing vessels and aquaculture sites, and over 2,000 food production and drink enterprises. The sector is responsible for 4.5 million hectares of agricultural land and over 808,000 hectares of forestry, some 76% of land in Ireland.
This year’s publication includes chapters on Agri-Food Sector and the Economy; Farm Income and Structures; Agricultural Commodities and Inputs; Forestry; Fisheries and Aquaculture; Agri-Food sector trade; EU and International Policy; Environment; and Research, plus a Statistical Annex.
