Minister Heydon chairs Food Vision 2030 Committee at the Teagasc Crops and Technology Open Day

At the Teagasc Crops and Technology Open Day in Oak Park, Carlow, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, TD, today chaired the 14th meeting of the Food Vision High Level Implementation Committee.

The Food Vision 2030 Tillage Report, a sector-led initiative, was published in May 2024. Progress on its recommended actions were discussed at the meeting, which also included an overview of the Crops and Technology Open Day.

Minister Heydon said:

“I want to thank Teagasc, and its Director, Frank O’Mara, for hosting us at their annual Crops and Technology Open Day. Teagasc are doing significant work in the area of crops research, development, and innovation. This is making a significant contribution towards achieving the ambition set out in the Food Vision 2030 Tillage Report and the overall Food Vision 2030 goal of making Ireland “a world leader in sustainable food systems”.

“Our attendance at this event today provides the Committee members with an excellent opportunity to see the work being done by Teagasc and how it makes a significant contribution towards our economic and environmental sustainability ambitions. I’m particularly happy to launch Tillage AgNav at today’s open day, and this further development of AgNav is another considerable milestone.”

Director of Teagasc, Professor Frank O’Mara commented:

“Research and knowledge transfer is essential to deliver on the targets in the Food Vision 2030 Tillage Report. The Crops and Technology 2025 event is an important opportunity to show farmers the latest research to enhance agronomic performance, control weeds and diseases, and add value to tillage crop production. There will be a focus on sprayer technology in the Technology demonstration, run in partnership with the Farmers Journal, as well as a horticultural demonstration of machinery for accelerated planting and weeding. We will also launch the AgNav Tillage to gauge the carbon footprint of tillage systems and identify farm management actions to support water quality”.
