Minister McConalogue supports Commission in taking steps to counteract unsustainable practices

Minister McConalogue, at AgriFish Council in Brussels today set out Irelands priorities regarding the upcoming EU-UK, EU-Norway and EU-UK-Norway.

Minister McConalogue highlighted the importance of reaching a sustainable and balanced agreement in relation to the UK negotiations, to provide stability for EU fishers.

On the EU-Norway negotiations, Minister McConalogue stated that

“Ireland’s long held position has not changed, and those countries who benefit most from the agreement must minimise the burden on countries who don’t.“

The Minister confirmed Ireland’s support for and welcomed the recent publication of the Commission proposal to amend the 1026/2012 Regulation calling to take steps to counter act the actions by Third Countries which threaten the sustainability of shared stocks.
