Storm Amy statement from National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management

The National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) chaired a further meeting of the National Severe Weather Humanitarian Group on Sunday morning in response to the aftermath of Storm Amy.

Significant progress has been made across all counties that were impacted by this severe weather event. While some homes and businesses remain without services, the vast majority of those affected have had their electricity and water restored.

ESB Networks and Uisce Éireann will continue to deploy crews to the areas that remain affected, and every effort is being made to fully restore all affected areas in the shortest possible timeframe. ESB Networks has updated the PowerCheck website with the expected restoration times. The road network is fully open, and all public transport is operating to normal schedules. The local coordination of the response will continue until all those impacted have their services fully restored.

Donegal was the worst-affected county by this storm, and the eight Community Support Centres that were activated in response remain in operation today (Sunday) and are available to provide basic essential services to the communities that remain affected.

Donegal County Council has published an interactive map which can be accessed here.

Providing the necessary assistance to the people impacted by the storm is the priority of the National Severe Weather Humanitarian Group. Any householder affected by the storm, with an urgent financial need, should contact the Community Welfare Service at has@welfare.ie.

An Important Public Safety Message: ESB Networks reminds the public to Stay Safe and Stay Clear of Fallen Electricity Wires. If you come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, never, ever touch or approach these as they are LIVE and extremely dangerous. Please report any damage to the electricity infrastructure by calling 1800 372 999.

The NDFEM will continue to liaise with all relevant Departments and agencies, monitoring the situation.
