Tourism agencies and bodies under the aegis of the department


Tourism Ireland

Tourism Ireland CLG (Company Limited by Guarantee) is the all-island tourism marketing company established on foot of the Good Friday Agreement (1998) by the then Bord Fáilte and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB). The company was formally incorporated in 2000. Tourism Ireland is accountable to the North South Ministerial Council, with funding being provided by the Department of Tourism, Gaeltacht, Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for the Economy in Northern Ireland.

Tourism Ireland has responsibility for:

  • marketing the island of Ireland overseas as a holiday and business tourism destination
  • the delivery of regional and product marketing and promotion activity on behalf of Fáilte Ireland and the NITB
  • the overseas tourism office network

National Tourism Development Authority - Fáilte Ireland

The National Tourism Development Authority – Fáilte Ireland – was established under the National Tourism Development Authority Act 2003.

Fáilte Ireland’s role is to support the tourism industry and work to sustain Ireland as a high-quality and competitive tourism destination. It provides a range of practical business supports to help tourism businesses better manage and market their products and services.

It also works with other State agencies and representative bodies, at local and national levels, to implement and champion positive and practical strategies that will benefit Irish tourism and the Irish economy.

Fáilte Ireland also promotes Ireland as a holiday destination through its domestic marketing campaign DiscoverIreland.ie and manages a network of nationwide tourist information centres that provide help and advice for visitors to Ireland.
