The Minister for Justice Simon Harris has published the 8th and final report of the Implementation Oversight Group for the implementation of the Penal Policy Review Group recommendations, and an accompanying letter from the Group’s Chairperson, Professor Mary Rogan.
Publication of this report recognises the great collective effort made by the Department of Justice, those sitting on the Implementation Oversight Group, and those working with Department of Justice agencies to achieve penal reform.
Publishing the final report Minister Harris thanked everyone involved with this Group for their dedication, commitment, and professionalism, and commended Professor Mary Rogan in particular for her excellent work as Chairperson of the Group.
The mission of the Interagency Group on Cooperation for a Fairer and Safer Ireland is to improve interdepartmental and interagency coordination in the integration and rehabilitation of offenders and the prevention of crime as recommended by the Report of the Penal Policy Strategic Review Group.
The Group has focussed on analysing the nature of the problems faced by offenders when released from custody and how better interagency cooperation could assist in their reintegration into the community.
