Application to Place a Skip on a Public Road/Footpath

Cork City Council has introduced a licensing system for the placement of Skips on Public areas, within the City Centre Island as outlined in this map.

  • Only a Licensed Skip Operator may be apply for a Skip Placement Licence.
  • Application for a licence must be submitted a minimum of 14 days prior to the proposed commencement of works.
  • Anyone wishing to hire a skip may only do so from a licensed skip operator and the operator must obtain a skip placement licence for each individual skip.
  • All applications for Skip Operator and Skip Placement Licences incur an application charge including withdrawn and refused applications. This charge is non-refundable. A consultation may be required for works of significant impact. If you have any queries in advance of making an application please contact mary_mccaughley@corkcity.ie or orla_thacker@corkcity.ie
  • Application fee: €110. This can be paid online at the end of this form. Further charges will be advised at the processing stage.
  • Please note that all Extension of Time requests will be charged €110.

However, if you are preparing to place a skip outside the zoned areas on map above, you will be required to pay parking charges. A consultation may be required in respect of this work permit and if so please contact: parkingpermits@corkcity.ie

Please note: The person registering on this platform and applying for the licence will sign the declaration (digitally) and must be the holder of the accompanying insurance policy.

Note 1: Work Method Statement / Traffic Management Plan

Where it is proposed to place a Skip on or near a carriageway a Work Method Statement / Traffic Management Plan, which includes the following, must be submitted:

  • Proposed arrangements to ensure minimum impact on traffic flow.

Note 2: Pedestrian Management Plan

Where it is proposed to place a Skip on or near a footpath a Pedestrian Management Plan, which includes the following, must be submitted:

  • Arrangements for Pedestrian Diversions including proposals for temporary footpaths, ramps, signage, fencing etc.
