The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport has prepared a draft Statutory Adaptation Plan for the Transport Sector for the purpose of public consultation.
The Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 placed the development of national adaptation frameworks and sectoral adaptation plans on a statutory basis. Ireland's first statutory National Adaptation Framework (NAF) was published in January 2018 and sets out the national strategy to reduce Ireland’s vulnerability to the negative effects of climate change and to avail of any positive impacts. As required under the Act, the NAF is expected to undergo review at least every 5 years.
The first draft statutory Climate Change Adaptation Plan for the Transport Sector, under the new provisions of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 and the National Adaptation Framework, is now being published for the purpose of public consultation. These representations will be considered before the final version of the plan is published and submitted to Government.

The public consultation will be open for a period of four (4) calendar weeks. The deadline for all submissions as part of this consultation is close of business on Monday 12 August, 2019.
Screening Determination of Appropriate Assessment Of The Statutory Climate Change Adaptation Plan for the Transport Sector
The minister has undertaken screening for the need for Appropriate Assessment to assess if the Statutory Climate Change Adaptation Plan for the Transport Sector, individually or in combination with other plans or projects is likely to have a significant effect on a European site(s).
Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) Screening Determination Report For The Statutory Climate Change Adaptation Plan For The Transport Sector
Screening of the Plan established that the Plan does not fall into any of the sectors covered by the Directive; it will not significantly affect a Natura 2000 site/European site, nor does it provide a framework for development consent.

Adaptation measures should enable continued services and maintained infrastructure as well as safeguarding new assets from longer term impacts by ensuring that current design specifications will adequately address future infrastructure needs.
