Harnessing Cyber as an Engine of Economic Growth - Consultation on Draft Cyber Industrial Strategy
The Mid-Term Review of the National Cyber Security Strategy 2019-2024 called for the development of a 'whole of Government' strategy for the development of the cyber industry in Ireland. Furthermore "delivering a significant initiative in Cyber Security Research" remained a key outstanding measure from that Review. Recognising this challenge and leveraging off national policies on research and industrial development, particularly Impact 2030 and the Enterprise White Paper, the realisation of a national cyber industrial strategy enables digital transformation. This need for a cyber industrial strategy is reinforced in the government’s National Digital Strategy, Harnessing Digital.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) established an advisory group to steer the development of the Industrial Strategy. The group comprises of representatives from the Departments of Education, the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment, the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and from the Department of the Environment Climate and Communications itself. Furthermore, representatives of State Agencies, Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland, National Standards Authority Ireland and Science Foundation Ireland also contributed, as did the national industry cluster Cyber Ireland.
Through RSM Ireland Ltd, the NCSC undertook extensive consultation, inclusive of 19 structured interviews and 3 online workshops. This public consultation document seeks views from knowledgeable members of the public and stakeholders in cyber security and forms the next stage in the Strategy development.
