The IRG Implementation Division was established to oversee and support the implementation of the recommendations in the Report of the Independent Review Group (IRG).
The Statutory/Non-Statutory Inquiries Unit has supported the establishment of a Judge-led statutory inquiry to investigate whether there have been serious systemic failures in the complaints system in the Defence Forces, in relation to interpersonal issues including, but not limited to sexual misconduct. The Unit is the contact point and Department liaison for Counsel appointed to the Minister for Defence/Department of Defence for the purpose of the Defence Forces Tribunal of Inquiry. The Unit also supports the progression of the non-statutory inquiries recommended in the IRG report.
The Policy and Complaints Reform Unit supports the development, review and redesign of the Defence Forces’ Complaints and Grievance processes. The Unit also has a broader policy responsibility for progressing IRG implementation generally in liaison with the Defence Forces and other areas in the Department of Defence.
Staff in the IRG Implementation Division provide the secretariat and support function to the External Oversight Body.
