All Irish public bodies are obliged to treat public funds with care, and to ensure that the best possible value for money is obtained whenever public money is being spent or invested.
The Public Spending Code is the set of rules and procedures that ensure that these standards are upheld across the Irish public service. Within the code there are specific requirements to evaluation of current and capital expenditure.
Embedding the Public Spending Code in the Health Sector is a key initiative the Statement of Strategy. This will help improve oversight and partnership in the sector.
To assist the HSE and our Health agencies to implement the Code, Department of Health Irish Government Economic & Evaluation Service Staff have prepared guidance material and templates for the preparation of current and capital business cases.
Over time it is intended that examples of best practice will be included here to demonstrate the standards expected in new expenditure proposals.
