The fee for an employment permit must be paid by the applicant, that is, the employer/employee/connected person or contractor, or their authorised agent.
The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment issues employment permits on behalf of the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
From 1 October 2014, the Department will no longer accept paper based payments from business applicants and payment must be made by Electronic Funds Transfer into a specific Departmental Bank Account set up to receive payments in respect of employment permits.
Applicants who are paying by Electronic Funds Transfer should submit a completed application with all relevant attachments and indicate on the Requirement for Payment section of the application form that they are paying by Electronic Funds Transfer. When the application is received and passes through the initial pre-check stage it will be assigned a unique identification number, an Application ID, and an email will then issue requesting payment of the fee by Electronic Funds Transfer. The email will provide details of the amount of the fee due, the bank account into which the payment should be made and the Application ID number which must be used as the reference when making the payment. This will enable the section to associate the payment with the relevant application.
From 1 October 2014 Individual applicants may continue to make paper based payments in the form of Euro denominated cheques, bank drafts, demand drafts or postal orders, drawn on a financial institution operating within the Irish clearing system and made payable to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Individual applicants may, if they wish, pay by Electronic Funds Transfer following the procedure outlined above for business users.
