The information below sets out COVID-19 related advice and guidance available to employees.
With a large proportion of people working from home, the workplace has changed from what it was pre-pandemic.
Where necessary, your employer might be discussing with you how to maintain your current working arrangement or how you can work between home, hubs and the office. This might be on a full-time or hybrid basis, which is a combination of home/hub/office. If you are continuing to work remotely, You may also wish to explore training and the country’s network of hubs.
The government has developed guidance around remote working including a Code of Practice on the Right to Disconnect for workers. The Code is designed to support employers and employees in navigating an increasingly digital and changed working landscape, while complementing the existing protections in employment legislation. It also provides assistance to employees who feel obligated to routinely work longer hours than those agreed in their terms and conditions of employment.
The government has also developed a National Remote Work Strategy which includes introducing legislation around the right to request remote work. Currently, in Ireland, all employees can request remote work from their employers but there is no legal framework around which a request can be made and how it should be dealt with by the employer.
As you return to the workplace it is vital that you do so safely. You should talk to your employers about the Transitional Protocol: Good Practice Guidance for Continuing to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19. It sets information on a range of COVID-19 safety measures for the workplace reflecting the most recent public health advice.
