The Residential Construction Cost Study was conducted under Action 19.1 Housing for All and is a shared Construction Sector Group (CSG)/Government initiative. The study complements a range of other actions in Housing for All to help achieve economic sustainability including the development of modern methods of construction. Actual construction costs in Ireland account for approximately 50% of overall residential development costs.
Within the study, Irish residential construction costs, processes and models were compared against four European comparator cities:
A set of agreed actions on foot of these findings has been formulated by government. These will be implemented as priority actions led by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage in collaboration with government and industry. This will translate into real and measurable cost-savings in Irish residential construction. The study’s findings will also be used to inform future policy and initiatives.
