The use or disposal of ABP is strictly controlled. This is to protect both public and animal health. If you are involved with ABP you must follow all appropriate rules and regulations.
The regulation of ABP is handled by a number of bodies:
- Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Responsible for most ABP processing plants and the largest meat plants.
- Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority: Responsible for marine ABP.
- Local Authority Veterinary Service: Responsible for ABP issues in smaller local abattoirs.
- Health Service Executive: Responsible for retail outlets, e.g. butchers.
This study was conducted in line with the tender requirements and terms of reference outlined in the Request for Tender (dated 08/07/2021 for the provision of a review of the potential demand in domestic and international markets for wool based products such as insulation and fertilisers) issued by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).
