Dr Sadhbh Whelan, Project Lead
Sadhbh joined the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) in February 2018 as the Child Protection Information Manager. Prior to that she worked as an independent research consultant. In the early part of her career, Sadhbh worked as a practitioner in frontline services, in the areas of child protection and homelessness. Latterly she worked as a researcher mostly in university-based research centres where she worked on research studies and evaluations relating to the needs of children, families and services provided. Sadhbh’s doctoral thesis was on child protection and welfare reporting.
Dr Angie Palmer, Project Team member
Angie has consulted for the Care Experiences Project since January 2022, as a Research and Information Specialist. She has worked as a policy analyst, political journalist and animal welfare advocate in Ireland, the UK and the United States. Her other research consultancy work has focused on the challenges for young adults leaving state care and housing provision for vulnerable groups. Her doctoral research explored Irish foster children's experiences of adoption and investigated adoption law reform in Ireland.
Angela Feeney, Project Team member
Angela has a social care practice background and has worked directly with children and young people across a range of care settings including residential care, foster care and aftercare. Angela has also worked in frontline and managerial roles in services that support children and their families in the community. She started working with the Tusla National Research Office in 2016 and is now on secondment to the DCEDIY working as the Tusla Coordinator for the Care Experiences project further strengthening the collaboration between DCEDIY and Tusla. Angela is completing her PhD research at the University of Galway exploring the interface of child protection and family support policy and practice.
Jack Maguire, Project Team Intern
Jack Maguire joined the Project Team on 2 April for a two month internship with the Care Experiences project. Jack has a background in content, administration and communications roles. He previously worked for the Psychology Society of Ireland as a media and content coordinator. Jack has a degree in English Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Policy and Practice from Trinity College Dublin. He is completing this two month internship as part of his M.Sc. in Applied Social Research, Trinity College Dublin.
