On Friday 3rd June 2022, over 120 delegates from across Ireland’s agri-food sector, higher education and civil society gathered at the Teagasc Ashtown Food Research Centre in Dublin, to participate in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) and Teagasc co-organised seminar and workshop on Research & Innovation for Sustainable Food Systems: Delivering on the Ambition of Food Vision 2030.
‘Everyone at the table - Co-creating knowledge for food systems transformation’ report) On the day participants explored the central role research and innovation for sustainable food systems will play in delivering on the ambition of the Food Vision 2030 strategy. Martin Heydon, Minister of State with special responsibility for Research and Development, Farm Safety and New Market Development at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine delivered the opening address, followed by presentations from distinguished speakers:
• Professor Joachim Von Braun, Chair of the Scientific Group for the UN Food Systems Summit and President of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.
• Tom Arnold, Chair of the High-Level EU Committee in Food Systems Science, who have recently published the ‘Everyone at the table - Co-creating knowledge for food systems transformation’ report)
• Professor Ismahane Elouafi, Chief Scientist with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the UN.
The recordings of the opening introduction and the seminar presentations are now available to view on the Department YouTube Channel

Agriculture is a major contributor to Irelands greenhouse gas emissions due to the predominance of livestock within the sector. While the challenge to reduce this is significant, research, including that funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, has been making great strides in developing insights, technologies and solutions to mitigate these emissions.
A snapshot of this research was showcased at the 2022 Ploughing Championships where scientists from Teagasc and University College Dublin where able to share innovative new solutions in animal, pasture and soil management that could deliver significant impacts in the near future.
A recording of the seminar is now available. Watch back:
