The Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys T.D. hosted an online engagement event on Thursday 24 September 2020, to discuss the short-term and longer-term impacts of COVID-19 on rural Ireland, and any consequential actions which need to be taken in rural areas to contribute to the national economic and social recovery.
The webinar also provided an opportunity to examine additional challenges and opportunities impacting on rural communities and economies.

The event was attended by more than 150 participants, with a lively discussion on resilience in rural communities, how remote / connected working can be transformational for Ireland, the role of towns and villages in our social and economic recovery, the opportunities presented by the social economy amongst other topics.
The session provided an important input into the development of a new rural development policy for Ireland for the period 2020-2025.
