Project title: Distributed Sustainable Drainage Management
Organisation: Dublin City Council
Sector: Local Government
Amount awarded: €33,000
This project will design and implement new Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) or Rain Box Planters. SUDS are simple, low-cost solutions already in use in a number of countries. They use plants and soil to absorb and store rainwater, reducing or slowing the flow rates to the sewer, reducing flooding and sewer overflows downstream during extreme rainfall.
Intended outcomes:
1. Reduce on-street flooding and supporting the overall improvement of public spaces.
2. The potential return on investment (based on international studies) of this innovative is expected approach is 10 times faster than traditional large-scale engineering solutions.
3. Reduce the associated cost in flood response and maintenance.
