To coincide with the launch of Ireland's 4th National Biodiversity Action Plan (NBAP) 2023-2030 by the Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan, at the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin, the Office of Public Works are delighted to support this Plan and nurture their ongoing role in biodiversity conservation - read full press release: New National Biodiversity Action Plan.
The OPW as a member of the Biodiversity Working group in coordination with other relevant stakeholders will continue to remain committed to protecting our nature and biodiversity.
The OPW plays a key role in supporting the Actions for Nature Plan and the Templemore Flood Relief Scheme represents an excellent example of how biodiversity can be protected in the course of an engineering project. Some 160 individual biodiversity enhancement components were built into the scheme to protect fish and animals and their respective environments and allow vegetation to flourish in the channels. The Scheme when complete will protect 110 homes and businesses in the County Tipperary town.
