Benefits of working with the Office of Public Works (OPW)

Build a better future for yourself and others when you work with one of Ireland’s most diverse and long-standing government bodies.

The OPW is an essential part of Government. We must often respond quickly and flexibly to the challenges of the day from building Brexit-related infrastructure to reacting to extreme weather events, to delivering modular homes for those in need.

Our mission is to manage the State property portfolio, Ireland’s flood risk, and our national heritage – in a sustainable manner. This means we are at the forefront of finding innovative and sustainable solutions to help Ireland, its people, and its heritage adapt to the impacts of climate change.

The OPW has 100 offices in 24 counties across Ireland. It is one of the most varied workplaces with the widest range of job opportunities to be found anywhere. This is because the OPW’s remit is so vast and varied.

We conserve, manage and present over 2000 hectares of parklands and 780 historic properties and monuments. We are progressing 91 flood relief schemes and thousands of kilometres of ongoing drainage maintenance work. Unsurprisingly, the OPW requires a multidisciplinary workforce.
