About IHP/ICID



UNESCO-IHP

UNESCO International Hydrological Programme (UNESCO-IHP), establishment in 1975, is one of six UNESCO International/Intergovernmental Scientific Programmes. IHP is devoted to development of science and policy for sustainable management of freshwater resources. It includes education, training and capacity-building as a major component.


ICID

International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, established in 1950, is a leading scientific, technical, international not-for-profit, non-governmental organization. ICID is a professional network of experts from across the world in the field of irrigation, drainage, and flood management.


Joint Irish Committees for IHP/ICID Activities:

• Promotes coordination among stakeholders and professionals within Ireland, including their participation in research, demonstration and capacity building in the region and in the world to achieve IHP/ICID objectives.

• Provides advice to Government on water-related research, implications for development, education and capacity building.

• Coordinates Irish efforts in national and international hydrological and water resources management research, by promoting dialogue between institutions (stakeholders), encouraging collaboration and avoiding duplication.
