Discover the Beauty in ‘What Remains’ Exhibition at Farmleigh, Dublin

The Office of Public Works (OPW) invites you to explore the work of Irish Artist, Catherine Ward in her latest exhibition, 'What Remains', at Farmleigh, Dublin. Catherine’s work, which incorporates painting, photography and drawing, is inspired by landscapes that have been shaped by human interventions. In 'What Remains', Catherine delves into historic mining landscapes, such as Avoca in the Wicklow mountains, to document the lasting effects of the local mining industry on the land. Through the use of aerial perspective, Catherine captures the patterns, shapes, and traces that remain after mines and quarries have long been closed.

Drawing from a variety of sources including photographic material, on-site sketches, and found film material, she creates a unique blend of art that showcases both the presence and absence in these landscapes. By incorporating different brush strokes and complementary colours, her paintings evoke feelings of recognition and abstraction. Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, this exhibition presents a vivid and thought-provoking look at landscapes in a precarious state of being.
