In line with the Public Sector Climate Action Mandate, the OPW appointed Commissioner Robert Mooney as the Climate Action Champion. The Climate Action Unit (CAU) was established in 2023 in order to support the OPW response to Climate Action objectives and policy as outlined in the OPW Statement of Strategy 2023-2026.
The CAU coordinates and provides support to the OPW Climate Action Coordination Group (CACG). This group is a subgroup of the Management Board with senior management representation from across the OPW. Its role is to provide direction and oversight on the OPW’s delivery of the Climate Action Mandate and the Climate Action Plan, and to provide reports to the Management Board, as required.
The CACG contains a number of working-groups established to target climate action in specific areas of OPW operations. This creates the focus for the CAU.
