A video message (including ISL) from Minister for Education Norma Foley to the examination classes of 2021:
"Hello to the exam students of 2021. I just want to take a short few moments to update you on where we’re at at the moment. The exams advisory subgroup has met again this evening (Friday 5 February). The advisory subgroup is made up of representatives of students like yourselves, parents, teachers and management bodies. We’ve been engaged over the last while now and in those engagements a number of things have become very clear to me and indeed to the advisory group."
"Firstly, that exams should be available to students but secondly, that another measure different to exams should also be offered to students. To advance those discussions and to bring them to a conclusion I am now inviting the advisory group representatives to engage on a one to one basis with the department and we will do that beginning this weekend so as to bring conclusion to our discussions."
"I am aware that as students, you need certainty and you need fairness. I assure you that it’s my intention to work hard with the advisory group to ensure we achieve both for you. I want to thank you for your commitment, I want to thank you for your hard work and I want to thank you for your patience. I will continue to keep you updated. Go raibh maith agaibh."
