Central website provides information to citizens on Government services.
Mr Michael Ring TD, the Minister for Rural and Community Development has welcomed his department transitioning all of its online content to the gov.ie website.
gov.ie will combine the websites of all Irish government departments to provide a single platform where people can access and learn about government services.
The Department of Rural and Community Development has been selected to be one of the first departments to transition to gov.ie. The Departments of An Taoiseach, Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform have also completed the transition.
The website focuses on communicating in plain English and being customer focused.
Speaking about his department’s content on the website, Minister Ring said:
“I hope that people will find our content on gov.ie to be an invaluable source of information on rural and community development supports, services and policies. There is a strong emphasis on using plain English and the site is accessible and easy to navigate."
“The site showcases examples of communities accessing supports for their communities in a way which will hopefully inspire others to do the same.”
The Minister continued:
“One of the website’s strongest features is that it encourages visitors to provide feedback on each webpage. I am aware that so far the feedback on my department’s content has been overwhelmingly positive and we will continue to add and improve our information on the policies and services we provide.”
gov.ie is based on international best-practice for Government online communications. Its development is in-line with a worldwide trend for governments to consolidate their online presence into one domain.

The two pillars upon which gov.ie is built are content design and plain English. They complement one another and are focused on making content accessible and user friendly:

•The content on gov.ie is written in plain English so a reader can understand and act on it after a single reading. Readers prefer plain English, regardless of their level of education or reading ability.
•The gov.ie project is being run by the Office of the Government CIO, part of the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.
