The National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) Crisis Management Team held a virtual meeting today with Met Éireann, the OPW, local authorities, the Principal Response agencies, key departments and responding national organisations in preparation for Storm Dudley and Storm Eunice which are expected to impact Ireland on Wednesday 16 and Friday 18 February. The NDFEM Crisis Management Team will continue to liaise with Met Éireann to monitor the evolving weather situation and intends to conduct further meetings of the group over the coming days.
An orange wind warning has been issued for Donegal with effect from Wednesday 21.00 to Thursday 09.00. Westerly winds associated with Storm Dudley will reach mean speeds of 65-80km/h with damaging gusts of 100-130km/h, stronger on exposed coasts and on high ground. A combination of high tide and strong winds may lead to some coastal flooding.
Yellow warnings are in operation for the rest of the country from Wednesday 12.00 to Thursday 12.00. Westerly winds associated with Storm Dudley will reach mean speeds of 50-65km/h with damaging gusts of 80-110km/h, stronger on exposed coasts and on high ground. A combination of high Spring tides and strong winds may lead to flooding on exposed coasts.
After a brief respite the current weather models are predicting that Storm Eunice will track up over Ireland later on Thursday night and during the early part of Friday, bringing with it the potential for some severe winds countrywide. It also has the potential to bring falls of snow in the northern half of the country.
