Minister Madigan congratulates all artists on success of Ireland Performs
Ireland Performs, the Culture Ireland scheme in partnership with Facebook Ireland, concludes a hugely successful six week period of 120 performances online attracting a global audience of almost 800,000.
Josepha Madigan, T.D., Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has congratulated all artists involved in Ireland Performs saying “Artists performed so brilliantly in challenging conditions, reaching audiences from their homes, sheds, vans and local facilities and I am so pleased to have been able to support them to connect with a worldwide audience.”
Performances under the Ireland Performs initiative covered all genres of music, spoken word, theatre and visual arts by artists located in 28 counties of the island of Ireland. There has been strong audience engagement from around the world with online comments posted from Asia, countries across Europe and the US. The events were supported by First Music Contact and promoted by Irish Cultural Centres worldwide and the Embassy network.
Culture Ireland placed a special focus on artists who lost international touring opportunities including musicians who were due to perform at high profile international showcases such as SXSW and The Great Escape as well as artists who had international tours interrupted and had to return home from the US in March.
Over 110 of the performances remain available for people in Ireland and the world to still enjoy through Culture Ireland’s Facebook page.
