His Excellency, Hassan S. Aljomae, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and His Excellency, Flavio Helmold Macieira, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil presented their Letters of Credence to President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin today.
His Excellency, Hassan S. Aljomae, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was accompanied by his spouse Mrs. Ghalia Jadallah.
His Excellency, Flavio Helmold Macieira, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil, was accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Josieane Pacheco Cotrim Macieira, his daughter Ms. Maria Isabel Cotrim Macieira and Mr. Felipe Costi Santarosa, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil.
Heather Humphreys, Minister for Social Protection and Minister for Rural and Community Development represented the government at the ceremony.
The following were also present: Ms. Orla O’ Hanrahan, Secretary General to the President; Mr. Michael Gaffey, Director General, Development Cooperation and Africa Division, Department of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Eamonn McKee, Chief of Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs; Col. Stephen Howard, Comdt. Brian Walsh, Comdt. Deirdre Newell, and Capt. Pol O’Donnell, Aides-de-Camp to the President; and Mr. Joe Brennan, Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassadors were accompanied to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2 Brigade Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Lieutenant Stephen Meegan.
A Guard of Honour was provided at Áras an Uachtaráin by the 6 Infantry Battalion, Custume Barracks, Athlone under the command of Lieutenant Jack McMahon.
Lieutenant Eoin Minagh from the 6 Infantry Battalion, Custume Barracks, Athlone was the flag officer.
Captain Tom Kelly conducted the No. 1 Army Band, which is based in Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin.
