His Excellency, Mr. César Rodríguez Zavalla, Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, His Excellency, Mr. José Alberto Briz Gutiérrez, Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala and His Excellency, Mr. Elnio Manuel Durán, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic presented their Letters of Credence to President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin today.
His Excellency, Mr. César Rodríguez Zavalla, Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Maria Algorta.
His Excellency, Mr. Elnio Manuel Durán, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic was accompanied by Mr. Francisco Manuel Comprés Hernández, Deputy Head of Mission.
Mr. Ossian Smyth, Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform, with responsibility for Public Procurement and eGovernment; and at the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications with special responsibility for Communications and Circular Economy represented the government at the ceremony.
The following were also present: Ms. Orla O’Hanrahan, Secretary General to the President; Mr. Ruairí de Búrca, Assistant Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs; Col. Stephen Howard, Comdt Brian Walsh and Capt. Pól O’Donnell, Aides-de-Camp to the President; Mr. Gerald Angley, Mr. Joe Brennan and Ms. Cathy Barnicle, Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassadors were accompanied to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2 Brigade Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Second Lieutenant Robert Scully.
A Guard of Honour was provided at Áras an Uachtaráin by the 1 Mechanised Infantry Company, DFTC, Kildare, under the command of Lieutenant Michael Hickey.
Captain John Carpenter conducted the Band of the 2nd Brigade, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin.
Second Lieutenant Sophie Dunworth, from the 1 Mechanised Infantry Company, DFTC, Kildare, was the flag officer.
