The minister welcomes the publication today by the National Lottery Regulator of the licence awarded to Premier Lotteries Ireland Limited (PLI), as the successful bidder for the new 20-year licence to operate the National Lottery as set out in the National Lottery Act 2013.
The Act provides for the publication of the licence by the regulator who was appointed by the minister and took up office in November 2014.
Premier Lotteries Ireland was awarded the licence based on their collective expertise and experience, as well as a winning upfront payment of €405 million for the 20-year term.
This money, which has been paid in full, will be used to build the new National Children’s Hospital and has provided funds for many other projects nationwide.
Since taking over the National Lottery licence in November 2014, PLI has raised over €200 million for good causes, funding communities, projects and individuals in the areas of youth, sports, recreation and amenities, health and welfare, arts, culture and national heritage, environment and the Irish language.
The minister said:
"I am pleased to report that due to PLI’s successful operation of the new licence, it is estimated that the monies available for good causes will increase in 2016.
"I look forward to further increases in revenue for good causes in future years now that the changeover process is complete.
"I would like to congratulate PLI on a successful transition and thank them for their investment and confidence in the National Lottery."
