The Office Government Procurement (OGP) a division of the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform, is delighted to have been shortlisted in three categories in the National Procurement Awards 2024.
Minister of State with responsibility for public procurement and circular economy Ossian Smyth, congratulated the OGP saying:
“Congratulations to the OGP on being shortlisted for the National Procurement Awards 2024, particularly in these three categories. The projects involved demonstrate the power of strategic centralised procurement in delivering value for money, supporting innovation and leading the transition to a circular economy.”

Most Innovative Use of Technology Award: Office of Government Procurement & Public Appointment Service
Applicant web portals such as publicjobs.ie and stateboards.ie are key to recruitment in the civil and public service. This collaborative project to procure software for these web portals involved a complex bespoke procurement utilising the latest advancements in technology in a way that is GDPR compliant, accessible, and compatible with multiple different apps and devices.
Procurement Team of the Year (SME): Office of Government Procurement - Energy Team
The OGP energy team navigated a period of extreme volatility and hyper-inflation in energy markets to put contracts in place for electricity and natural gas for public sector bodies. The team were able to deliver value for money contracts despite rocketing energy prices during a time of unprecedented uncertainty.
Best Green Procurement Project of the Year (SME): Office of Government Procurement - Framework for Remanufactured Laptop Computers
Earlier this year, the OGP completed an innovative project to establish a new Framework for the provision of remanufactured laptops. This is the first national level framework of its kind in the EU and is available for use by any public sector body in Ireland. Up to 60,000 remanufactured laptops can be procured under this framework. Purchasing just one remanufactured laptop over a newly manufactured laptop prevents 316kg of CO2 emissions and saves up to 190,000 litres of water.

As well as ensuring compliance with relevant procurement legislation, the OGP works to embed sustainable public procurement practices into all of its frameworks ensuring social, environmental and economic concerns are addressed by firms competing for government contracts. Criteria such as waste minimisation, responsible employment practices and other sustainability measures are built into all of the OGP’s central procurement arrangements supporting the delivery of better public services.
