Minister Ring welcomes Helen Martin to the role of Chief Executive Officer of The Charities Regulatory Authority

Mr Michael Ring TD, Minister for Rural and Community Development today welcomed the appointment of Ms Helen Martin as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Charities Regulatory Authority.
The Charities Regulator is an independent authority, established in October 2014 primarily to set up and maintain a public register of charitable organisations operating in Ireland and ensure their compliance with the Charities Acts.
There are currently in excess of 10,000 registered charities.
Ms Martin joined the Charities Regulator as Director of Regulation in March 2017, and has been the interim Chief Executive since the resignation of Mr John Farrelly in October 2018. Helen is a solicitor and previously worked in the Office of the Attorney General.

“With over 10,000 charities on the Charities Register, the work of the Regulator is vitally important. I have every confidence that the Board of the Regulator have chosen the right person for this demanding role. I would like to wish Helen the very best in leading the Charities Regulator into the future.”

“I recently launched the Regulator’s Statement of Strategy 2019-2021. The Strategy contains a comprehensive roadmap for the Regulator over the coming year. To achieve the goals in the Strategy will take determined and dedicated leadership. I am sure that Helen can provide the dynamic leadership to realise these goals for the benefit of the whole charity sector.”
Ms Martin also worked in the private sector for over 10 years and during that time worked as a senior associate in the Regulatory and Competition law unit of a large firm and as an in-house legal and regulatory adviser for two telecommunications companies. Helen holds a Barrister at Law Degree, a Bachelor of Civil Law Degree, a Diploma in Judicial Skills and Decision-making, a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma in EC Competition Law.
