Ireland’s Embassies and Missions are celebrating Pride Month, in line with our foreign policy commitment to promote and protect human rights for all. This year, our Embassies around the world will contribute to LGBTQIA+ film festivals, join Pride marches and proudly fly the rainbow flag.
Across the globe, from Buenos Aires to Brussels to Seoul, Ireland’s Embassies are celebrating and highlighting the immeasurable contributions of LGBTI+ individuals and communities to all aspects of social, political and cultural life, past and present.
Globally, Ireland’s mission network plays an active role in advocating for the rights of LGBTI+ persons, including promoting human rights and equality, advocating for the decriminalisation of same-sex relations, and working with other Embassies on Pride initiatives.
Tánaiste Micheál Martin said:
"In recent years, Ireland has been on a transformational journey of equality and inclusivity. Human rights are the core of our foreign policy, and we are committed to playing our role on the international stage to promote and protect the rights of LGBTI+ communities around the world.
"I recognise that, in some parts of the world, great strides have been made in recognising LGBTI+ rights, but in others, rights are under more pressure than ever before. To those whose rights are coming under attack, Ireland stands in solidarity with you.
"Beyond Pride month, Ireland will continue to work for the advancement of LGBTI+ rights, through the UN, the EU, in other multilateral fora, and with our country partners.
"Supporting LGBTI+ civil society organisations and human rights defenders is an essential part of our international human rights engagement."
