St Patrick’s Day 2024 celebrates Ireland’s future in the world

The focus for St Patrick’s Day 2024 is ‘the future of our country in the world’ – a future viewed especially through the eyes of our younger people, both at home and overseas.

This year’s St Patrick’s Day programme is the largest to date with 38 representatives of the State attending over 1,000 official events in 84 cities in 47 countries.

Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Micheál Martin TD said:

“St Patrick’s Day is an important moment for us to celebrate our people and the contribution that they make, both at home and around the world. It is an opportunity to reaffirm our unique connection to our diaspora communities and celebrate the bonds of friendship that connect Irish people and friends of Ireland globally.

At the heart of this are our young Irish global citizens, each making a significant contribution to a better world and continuing to build our global Irish communities. This year, we want to amplify these voices even further, calling on our younger population to envisage the world of the future and Ireland’s place within it.

Over the coming week, we will highlight the achievements of a new generation of Irish – in culture and creativity, innovation, business, academia, volunteerism, peacebuilding and public service – as symbols of Ireland’s rapidly changing and expanding role in the world.
