At its meeting yesterday, the government agreed to nominate Raymond Finnegan, Solicitor, for appointment as an Ordinary Judge to the District Court by the President of Ireland.
This vacancy arose following the appointment of His Honour Judge Colin Daly, former President of the District Court, to the Circuit Court on 15 March 2021.
His Honour Judge Paul Kelly was appointed as President of the District Court and assigned to the Dublin Metropolitan District (DMD) in March 2021, creating an assignment vacancy in District 1 (Donegal). Upon appointment by the President, Mr. Finnegan will be assigned to District 1.
The government has taken the necessary steps to formally advise President Higgins of the nomination in accordance with constitutional practice.
