The Department of Defence can confirm the arrival of a transport ship carrying 2 Inshore Patrol Vessels (IPVs) onboard today. The IPVs are scheduled to arrive and berth in Ringaskiddy, Cork at 5.30pm today (14 May). Other cargo and preparation work will be undertaken tomorrow (Monday 15 May).
Effectively the IPVs will not be delivered to the Naval Service until Tuesday 16 May. The IPVs will be unloaded on Tuesday – once in the water, the each IPV will be towed by tug to the Naval Base, where they will be berthed.
There will be an official statement later this week accompanied by images of the IPVs unloading.
The vessels will initially operate from the Haulbowline Naval Base (following a programme of work, crew familiarisation, commissioning/naming ceremony and so on. The IPVs are expected to become operational early 2024).
