Minister for European Affairs and Defence, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, has today (3 October) met with the UKs Minister for Relations with the European Union, Nick Thomas Symonds.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Carroll MacNeill said: “I warmly welcomed Minister Thomas Symonds to Dublin and welcomed his Government’s ambition to ‘reset’ relations with Ireland and with the European Union.
“We agreed on the importance of a positive EU-UK relationship. In a globally challenging context, we need to cooperate closely as like-minded partners with shared values.
“I believe that there is more the EU and the UK can be doing together, in addition to the existing cooperation agreements, for example as we look towards an agreement on fisheries arrangements post 2026.
“We also recalled the importance that Ireland attaches to the full and faithful implementation of the Windsor Framework arrangements for Northern Ireland.
“We also both welcomed the ambitious new agenda of bilateral cooperation that the Taoiseach and Prime Minister Starmer agreed in Dublin last month.”
