Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien today issued a reminder about the upcoming deadline for the 2025 Community Monuments Fund. This fund aims to conserve, maintain, protect and promote local monuments and historic sites.
This €7.4 million fund will be invested to help owners and custodians safeguard the future of archaeological monuments for the benefit of communities. Based on last year’s figures, this funding will support more than 140 projects nationwide.
The Community Monuments Fund was designed to encourage access to monuments and improve their presentation, to build their resilience to the effects of climate change and to enable conservation works on significant monuments in need of urgent support. In addition, it creates a significant volume of work for traditional skills practitioners and specialist craftspeople.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien, said:
“This is a reminder to applicants make their submissions as soon as possible. This funding plays a vital role in preserving our archaeological heritage by supporting the sector, in line with our Heritage Ireland 2030 plan and the Climate Change Adaptation Plan.”
The three streams of this funding support: repairs and capital works; the development of conservation management plans; and grants for enhancement of access infrastructure and interpretation at archaeological monuments.
Private applicants should contact their local authority to confirm the submission deadline that applies to them.
Closing date:
1. Private applicants and/or community groups should submit to their local authority at a date specified by the local authority but not later than 31 January 2025. The local authority will submit their selection to DHLGH by 14 February 2025.
2. State-funded organisations working in the heritage area should submit any proposals to the department directly - email cmf@housing.gov.ie - on or before close of business on 14 February 2025.
