The Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Sean Kyne TD, today (14 September 2018) noted the resignation of Mr. John Farrelly, from the role of Chief Executive of the Charities Regulatory Authority.
The Charities Regulator is an independent authority, established in October 2014 primarily to set up and maintain a public register of charitable organisations operating in Ireland and ensure their compliance with the Charities Acts.
Mr Farrelly is stepping down from the role after three years, during which time the Charities Regulator has progressed from its early formative stages into the effective and efficient Regulator it has become. The number of registered charities has increased from 8,003 at the end of 2016 to 9,570 at the end of May 2018 and the register is now supported by an online digital platform.
Minister Kyne said:
“I’d like to thank the outgoing CEO of the Charities Regulatory Authority, Mr John Farrelly for his leadership of the Authority. The Authority plays an important role in maintaining confidence in the charity and community and voluntary sectors in Ireland and has broadened its work under John’s leadership. I wish John well in his upcoming role at the Mental Health Commission and I look forward to the appointment of a new CEO of the Charities Regulatory Authority.”
