A Jobs and Career Advice Fair will be held on Thursday this week, 7 April in the Abbey Hotel in Donegal town. The Jobs and Career Advice Fair is being hosted by the Department of Social Protection together with the Donegal Local Development Company Ltd. The event will run from 10.30am to 2.30pm and admission is free.
Hundreds of jobs will be available at the event ranging in areas from health, medical, sales, IT, tourism, Defence Forces, hospitality and food, to manufacturing and home care. Some 40 employers and 20 Education and Training Providers will be attending the event offering full information and advice on each of their fields.
The Jobs Fair will also have professional personnel providing key advice for jobseekers on how to prepare and write a CV.
Kevin Humphreys, the Minister of State at the Department of Social Protection with responsibility for employment supports, has urged all unemployed people and jobseekers living in Donegal town and its environs to attend:
“The Jobs and Career Advice Fair will provide jobseekers with a unique opportunity to meet with employers who are offering full and part time work. People attending will also have an opportunity to explore and consider new careers. They will also have the facility to source detailed information on a wide range of upskilling initiatives and training."
“I would like to acknowledge the participation of the many industries that have come on board with this Jobs Fair. We have had previous Jobs Fairs in other parts of Donegal which proved to be successful. This time, we are concentrating on South Donegal. I would urge all jobseekers who are living here to go along to the event. I hope these sectors will avail of this opportunity to find staff for the many vacancies they need to fill.”
Information will also be available on the EURES Cross Border Partnership with details of job opportunities, both cross border and in the wider European labour market. EURES, a European-wide initiative that has been in place since 1993, assists jobseekers take up employment within the EU. It is a network of all the public employment services in the European Union and the European Economic Area.
Any such employment opportunities brought to the attention of jobseekers by the Department of Social Protection outside of Ireland are completely voluntary and people who do not avail of any such opportunities will not lose their social welfare entitlements here. It is an opportunity for jobseekers in Ireland to seek work in other EU countries in the wider European market. Equally, it provides jobseekers abroad with an opportunity to find work with companies based here in Ireland where such vacancies cannot be filled by jobseekers in Ireland.
